Fans think Konami is working on a new castlevania game after it was revealed that the publisher registered the name “Project Zircon” in Japan on March 7. This speculation is rather weak, as it is based only on the fact that Zircon is the cheapest gem in the Castlevania series. But fans have other guesses as to what it could be.
Project Zircon could be related to Metal Gear Solid or just NFT
The “Project Zircon” brand, as found by Gematsu, is intended for a large number of gaming media. The magazine suggests in a row that it could refer to a new Castlevania game, which would be in line with previous rumors that Konami could reveal a new game in the Castlevania series, as well as the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 during E3 2023.
On the (very) optimistic side, some fans who responded to the Twitter and Resetera thread think Project Zircon might mean something about Metal Gear Solid. Indeed, zircon (or cubic zirconia) is a fake diamond and the series presents Diamond Dogs. Yes, we know that’s an exaggeration.
Others think this is just another unfortunate NFT project from Konami, given that it announced NFTs (of all things) for Castlevania’s 35th anniversary in 2022. In fact, a s sold for $160,000.
That being said, Konami is looking to return with the Silent Hill 2 remake, other Silent Hill projects, and a remaster of Suikoden 1 and 2. So Project Zircon could be more than just an NFT or pachinko machine.
