Call of Duty is coming soon to Switch. Indeed, after a 10-year agreement between Microsoft and Nintendo, the American firm must run the series and future series on Switch. Which raises a lot of compatibility questions…

It is surely the dream of many Nintendo console fans that could well come true. Call of Duty could be available on Switch if the latest news is to be believed. If speculation around Activision has been going well for a few months, one thing is certain: the agreement between the Redmond firm and Nintendo ensures that the famous franchise will soon be (back) on Switch.

This isn’t the first time games of this caliber have been released on Nintendo’s console. Examples include games like Apex Legends, Doom Eternal, Fortnite, and Crysis 3 which have been ported to the Nintendo Switch. These games have been implemented using standard optimization techniques. Although the Apex Legend series, for example, had frame rate issues, image quality issues when it launched on Switch. For Microsoft, this will not be the case with Call of Duty.

“The Activision development team has a long history of optimizing game performance for available hardware capabilities.” Microsoft responds to the appeal in the United Kingdom before the Competition Authority.

Call of Duty on Switch, doubts remain

Despite this confident observation, we should not delude ourselves because many doubts remain. The possibility of the Switch being able to “host” Activision Blizzard’s game raises many questions. Also, if we take Warzone 2 as an example which was released on almost all platforms (PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One and Xbox One X), it struggles to maintain 60 FPS on these consoles according to Digital’s tests. Foundry.

Also, a game like Fortnite, which is a Battle Royale like Warzone, only runs at 30 FPS on Switch. Which is very low for a game that requires a lot of fluidity. Remember, however, that no Call of Duty game was released on Nintendo Switch. However, Microsoft remains confident with its main argument: “The game engine that powers Warzone is mature and has been optimized to run on a wide range of hardware devices (from the Xbox One console released in 2015 to the Xbox Series X)”. It would therefore be easier to set up on Switch, a console that appeared in 2017. Keep in mind that cloud gaming could also become a solution. This may refer to the console that will succeed the Switch. Nothing is less certain, let’s wait and see…
