In Baldur’s Gate 2 we had our own fortress, in Divinity Original Sin 2 we had our own ship – we are sure that in Baldur’s Gate 2 we will have our own house.

In the recently announced Collector’s and Digital Deluxe editions of Baldur’s Gate 3, we can find something very interesting and not entirely clear. Among the many items and DLCs that we will receive in-game after purchase, there is a mention: “Rivellon Paintings” – paintings inspired by Larian’s previous game, Divinity Original Sin 2. This unique piece of DLC gives us hope for a very specific game item to be released on August 31st.

After the adventure, relax at home.

Although we can already play Baldur’s Gate 3 in early access and know a lot about the game itself, some things remain a mystery. This includes the issue of owning one or more apartments at Baldur’s Gate 3.

Own heritage, such as houses or fortresses, is a common element of role-playing games. Even Geralt finally got his own home in The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine expansion. So the idea of owning a property in the upcoming Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t exactly far-fetched. And that’s more than a guess – we already have our “base” in the current early access version of Baldur’s Gate 3 – it’s a simple camp. It is mainly used to rest and recover health and spells, but in BG3 resting in camp can sometimes advance the story (thanks to important dialogues and interactions between our team members).

Few people are aware of it, because the game doesn’t really explain it, but you can also customize camp in current version. As in previous Larian games, most items found in the world of BG3, even large ones, can be stored in the backpack. If you like a chair, orb, or candlestick, you can put it in your backpack or send it to camp. You can then use this item in your camp. This way you can decorate your camp as you see fit. In fact, these elements can even be rotated (when holding an element, use the mouse wheel).

Camp isn’t the same as your nice house with a fireplace and all, but we have a feeling we’ll get there too. In addition to the Paintings from Rivellon DLC, the history of the Baldur’s Gate franchise and Larian Studios also seems to confirm this.

Do you remember the highlights of BG2?

In Larian’s previous game, Divinity Original Sin 2, we had access to a base of sorts, which was, of course, The Lady Vengeance, a ship taken from the magisters, which served as our base. However, its manipulation did not introduce extended mechanics.

It was much more interesting in the old Baldur’s Gate 2. Many of you probably don’t remember or haven’t had the pleasure of playing this game (dated 2000), but in this game we have able to gain access to our own headquarters. Interestingly, it wasn’t necessary at all and we could have easily missed it. Our BG2 headquarters were called strongholds and tied to the character class.. After completing certain missions, which usually consist of bringing order to a place affected by some kind of calamity, we become the owners of the fortress. And so, for example, a warrior or a barbarian could take control of the dungeon of ‘Arnise, a thief could take control of the thieves’ guild in the port district of Athkatla, and a mage, the planar sphere in the district marginal slums.

After taking over the location, we could start managing it, which usually involved solving unique quests; for example, as governor of a warrior’s fortress, we had to solve the problems of our subjects (many years later, this theme was developed in Pillars of Eternity, where we rule a fortress). Having our own house also brought us several advantages: money or, for example, potions to use in battle.. Fortresses in BG2 were a treasured part of the game, and Larian surely remembers that.

Will we have our own home in Baldur’s Gate 3?

However, will we have access to our own house or fortress at some point in Baldur’s Gate 3, which will replace the camp? Everything indicates that. This is apparent not only from said DLC, but also from the past of Larian, Baldur’s Gate, and Divinity Original Sin 2. In truth, Divinity and Baldur’s Gate 3 were designed so that we could easily change the scenery (by moving them around freely). objects found in the world) from any room, dungeon, town or forest. So why not use this mechanism to decorate our own home?

Larian hasn’t commented on the matter yet, but said the downloadable content included in the Collector’s and Digital Deluxe’s editions gives us reason to believe that we will, in fact, have access to our home in BG3. After all, photos need walls, and we’re not going to decorate a riverside campsite with them, are we? So maybe the footage straight out of Divinity Original Sin 2 will hang in our beautiful new home at Baldur’s Gate 3. We should know the answer soon!
