DJ Khaled joined Def Jam Recordings and said he wanted to take his career to the “next level”.
Khaled will bring his We The Best label to the label, following his eight-year stint with Epic Records.
In a statement, he said: “This new chapter marks a special moment for me. The energy at this stage of my career is at an all time high and I am grateful to Sir Lucian Grainge for allowing me to join his worse at this point in my journey.”
“Together we will reach even greater heights and soar to the next level. I feel blessed and inspired with renewed energy.”
In 2009, Khaled was named president of Def Jam South, a music division of Def Jam, but stepped down in 2011. As part of this new partnership, he was also named UMG Global Creative Consultant.
He added, “I’m thrilled not only to be associated with Def Jam, but also to come home. Tunji Balogun is not just an amazing A&R, but a true man of music and visionary who is continually responsible for introducing the world to some of their next big superstars.
“I am thrilled to team up again with my sister and executive visionary LaTrice Burnette, as we have had tremendous success on every project we have collaborated on in the past. Def Jam is the culture and together we will enter again in history. “.
In other news, Khaled joined Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and more to close out the 2023 Grammys on Feb. 6 with a stunning performance of “God Did.”
After a night of great performances and historic wins, the all-star band – which also included Rick Ross, John Legend and Fridayy – took to an impromptu street stage to close the event in style. The performance took place on a long dining room table covered in food and candles, inspired by The Last Supper.
“We did an eight-minute song at the Grammys,” Khaled told the cameras as the long song drew to a close.
