Canada shot down this Saturday a “Unidentified object at high altitude” which violated the country’s airspace, announced Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Fighter jets from the North American Aerospace Defense Command (Norad), formed by the United States and Canada, overturned the object which flew over Yuconterritory in the northwest of the country.
“I ordered the demolition of an unidentified object that violated Canadian airspace,” Trudeau said on Twitter, a day after U.S. officials said they shot down a similar craft over Alaska.
“Canadian and American aircraft mobilized and an American F-22 successfully fired on the object,” Trudeau tweeted.
The operation came a week after US forces shot down a suspected Chinese spy balloon that sparked a new diplomatic rift with Beijing.
