Seville (Spain), 11 Feb. “As bestas”, a rural “thriller” by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, today won the 37th edition of the Goya Awards for Spanish Cinema, in a ceremony marked by the death on the eve of director Carlos Saura, and during which he was awarded as best Ibero-American film at “Argentina, 1985”.

French actress Juliette Binoche received the international Goya during this gala during which Sorogoyen’s film, which speaks of xenophobia and violence and is inspired by events that occurred in 2010 in a Galician village (north-west of the Spain), won nine awards, including Best Film and Best Direction. .

Its actors, Frenchmen Denis Menochet and Luis Zahera, also won the Goyas for Best Lead Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.

For more than half a gala, held at the Andalucía Auditorium in Seville (southern Spain), “Modelo 77”, the prison “thriller” by Alberto Rodríguez, hounded Sorogoyen, but finally stopped in five technical categories.
