The Faculty of Music at UNAM remains closed due to the strike promoted by campus workers (Google Maps)

From the early hours of Monday, March 13, 2023, the student community attached to the faculty of music from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) was unable to enter the premises. The reason was a cessation of activities promoted by the campus base workerswho demanded the full respect of their rights, in particular the payment of their salary bonuses.

Through a statement published on its website and on official social networks, the educational institution confirmed that “the facilities of our faculty were taken by base personnel early todayTherefore, access was denied to any member of the FaM community and with it, to daily academic, artistic and administrative activities”.

These are the personnel attached to the Union of Workers of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (STUNA), who placed various posters on the outside walls of the Faculty to demonstrate their problems. “Far from the oligarchy that prepares itself in music. We demand immediate payment.”was the message on one of the banners.

According to the newspaper The conferencerank and file workers were unhappy with the late payment of your salary bonuses. According to the protesters, the deposits were withheld on the orders of the school’s principal, María Teresa Frenk Mora, a situation that would violate agreements that have been in force for more than 40 years.

On the other hand, the claim extended to the timely payment of the quality and efficiency program, as well as the overtime. In this case, as one delegate stated, they asserted that the payment for both concepts came late from two or even three consecutive fortnights the period in which the income was generated.
