In Colombia, total informality stood at 57.9%, in the rolling quarter from November 2022 to January 2023.

The National Administrative Department of Statistics (Danish) published the results of the Informal employment and social security survey for rolling quarter November 2022 – January 2023. According to her, the phenomenon has experienced a slight decrease, although it continues to affect more than half of the country’s population able to work.

For the national total, in this period the proportion of informal employees was 57.9%a decrease of 0.6 percentage point compared to the same quarter of the previous year (58.4%).

On the other hand, for the 13 cities and metropolitan areas this proportion reaches 42.3%which represents a decrease of 1.3 percentage points compared to the rolling quarter November 2021 – January 2022 (43.7%).

“For the total of 23 cities and metropolitan areas, the proportion of informality stood at 44.0%, which meant a decrease of 1.3 percentage points compared to the same period of the previous year (45, 3%). While in the geographical domain of populated centers and scattered rural areas, the proportion of informality was 85.1%, which represents an increase of 0.9 percentage points compared to the rolling quarter of November 2021 to January 2022 Dane said.

The entity also indicated that for the national total, the proportion of casual men in the rolling quarter November 2022 – January 2023 was 60.1%, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point compared to the same quarter of the previous year (60.3%). In the case of women 54.6% were informally employed, compared to the rolling quarter November 2021 – January 2022 (55.7%), implying a decline of 1.1 percentage points.

For the 13 cities and metropolitan areasin the rolling quarter November 2022 – January 2023, the proportion of informal women was 41.6%while for the 23 cities and metropolitan areas, this proportion was 43.0%, which represented a decrease of 1.3 and 1.2 percentage points, respectively, compared to the rolling quarter November 2021 – January 2022, where it stood at 42.9% and 44.2%.

Regarding the Menin the rolling quarter November 2022 – January 2023, for the 13 cities and metropolitan areas where it was located 42.9%, which meant a reduction of 1.4 percentage points, since in the previous period it had recorded 44.%. While for the 23 cities and metropolitan areas, this proportion reached 44.8%, which meant a reduction of 1.3%, since in the rolling quarter November 2021 – January 2022 it was 46.1%.

“For the period of analysis, of the 23 cities and metropolitan areas, those with the highest proportion of informality were Valledupar (68.3%), Riohacha (67.8%) and Sincelejo (65.9%) , which for the mobile quarter November 2021 – January 2022 they recorded 62.9%, 63.0% and 66.3% and in the ranking they were fourth, third and second, overtaken by Cúcuta (67%)”, has clarified Dan.

While the cities with the lowest proportion of informality were Bogotá (32.5%), Manizales and its metropolitan area (35.3%) y Tunja (39.4%). In the rolling quarter of November 2021 to January 2022, these had indicators of 34%, 38% and 44.5%.

In the national total, for the rolling quarter November 2022 – January 2023, the 85.0% of the working population working in micro-enterprises it was informal, which meant a growth of 0.1 percentage point, since compared to the period of comparison, it amounted to 84.9%.

While in small businessmedium and large enterprises, the proportion of informal workers was 24.8%, 9.8%, and 5.3%, respectively. Compared to the mobile quarter November 2022 – January 2023, for the small business, there was a growth of 1.3%, while it previously stood at 23.5%. For the mediansgrowth has been 8.7%, which means that it increased by 1.1%.

In the end, the only number that fell was that of Big businesswhich decreased by 1.1%, since in the rolling quarter November 2022 – January 2023 it was 6.3%.
