Supermarkets have had to adapt to the pandemic situation and incorporate health products into their catalogs to adapt to market demands. Mercadona, after putting its surgical masks on sale several months ago, launched two weeks ago a line of FFP2 masks and another of hydroalcoholic gel.

Now it was the turn of reusable hygienic masks.

The company’s new product has been developed by the brand Deliplus, also a manufacturer of the FFP2 masks and the hydroalcoholic gel sold by the Valencian supermarket chain.

Filtration close to 100%

Mercadona’s hygienic masks are Intended for citizens over 12 years of age, as stated in their technical sheet. The product, which can hold up to 15 washes maintaining its own effectiveness to avoid contagion by coronavirus, it is sold in packs of 5 units, at a price of 3.25 euros.

Therefore, each mask costs 0.65 euros.

The masks comply with the UNE 0065: 2020 standard and present a bacterial filtration of 99.91% in its first use. In addition, after its fifteenth wash, it maintains a high efficiency of 98.1%.

Washing instructions

  • Immerse in 1:50 dilution of bleach with warm water (20 ml of bleach for each liter of water) for 30 minutes.
  • Afterwards, wash with soap and water.
  • Rinse well to remove any residual bleach.
  • Let dry within 2 hours after washing (maximum 15 wash cycles).
  • Do not use products other than bleach.
  • Do not dry or sanitize with a microwave oven.
  • Perform a visual inspection after each wash cycle.
  • Contact between a dirty mask and clean clothing should be avoided.
  • The person in charge of the wash must protect themselves to handle dirty masks.

Other sanitary products

The FFP2 masks Non-reusable have been available to customers for several weeks. With a 94% filtration and five layers, packs of three units cost 2.70 euros. Finally, the surgical masks sold by Mercadona, certified under the regulations UNE 0064 and with a 99% filtration, packs of 10 units cost 6 euros.
