Tragic work accident
It happened at dawn, around 3 am, in Cuéllar, a town in Segovia, where the 34-year-old man was unloading a carrot truck. The circumstances have not been clarified, but 112 has only been able to certify the death.
Several tons of carrots have fallen on him. A shift colleague has been in charge of calling the emergency services, unable to rescue him, and the worker was left unconscious.
After receiving the call from the accident, the 112 operations room gave notice to the Civil Guard of Segovia, to the Fire Brigade of the Diputación de Valladolid -due to its proximity-, and to Emergencies Sanitarias – Sacyl, with a basic life support ambulance, a medical team from Cuéllar and a mobile ICU. Nothing could be done for his life.
The factory is located in the town of Vallelado, at km 101 of the CL-602. Both in the aforementioned town and in the town of Cuellar consternation is maximum.
Occupational accidents in Spain
According to provisional data from the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, 649 workers died in occupational accidents in the first eleven months of 2021, one less than in the same period of 2020.
Between January and November 2021 there were 1,051,872 work accidents, of which 527,448 caused sick leave, 18.7% more, and 524,424 did not end in temporary disability, 9.6% more.
According to the INE, in Spain, during the year 2020, 505,528 work accidents with sick leave were recorded. Most occurred during the working day, specifically 446,195 accidents, which account for 88.3%. There is still no data for the first month of the year 2022.
