Neighbors of Zitacuaro were surprised to find nine bodies shot in the streets of their municipal seat, an incident that was immediately attended to by the authorities.

It was through the Attorney General of the State of Michoacán (FGE) where it was revealed the opening of an investigation folder in relation to events registered in this municipality, after being located nine lifeless people.

In an official statement, the authorities reported that personnel from the Specialized Crime Scene Unit (UECS) of the Zitácuaro Regional Prosecutor’s Office, was established on Benedicto López Sur street in the Centro neighborhood, after receiving a report.

Upon arrival, they made the shocking discovery of an abandoned Nissan pickup truck, type redilas, in which the bodies were found, piled up in the rear of the unit.

At the scene, the staff of the institution confirmed that it’s about eight men and one woman, which so far are unidentified, was reported after the first inquiries.

Corpses had wounds produced by a firearm projectile according to the FGE, which is why they were immediately transferred to the local Forensic Medical Service for a legal autopsy to establish the cause of death.

In said statement, the relevant authorities assured that they will continue with the investigations in order to clarify the facts and establish the identity of the person or persons responsible.

The first suspicions point to the organized crime group known as The Michoacan Family, of those who found various signs on the truck and who allegedly claimed responsibility for the murders, reported the correspondent Carlos Arrieta of the newspaper The universal.

For its part, Department of Public Security reported that through State Center for Command, Communications, Computing, Control, Coordination and Intelligence (C5), the cameras in the streets will be analyzed to identify those responsible.

Michoacán has become a true war zone, where Cartels United (La Familia Michoacana, Knights Templar and Los Viagras) and Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) dispute the territory in search of controlling the passage of drugs.

For its part, the well-known CJNG of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes has always been in Michoacan, since its main hierarchs are originally from Aguililla, since they formed the criminal group of Los Valencia.

While, Cartels United it tries to secure the territory so that its rivals no longer control more squares, and thus they do not lose their main bases of operations. These, in addition stop an alliance with Jose Antonio Yepez on Guanajuato, they would have on their side the self-defense groups of Michoacan.

In the middle of that war, the settlers remained, who are at the expense of moving according to the disposition of the criminal groups. Well, the way that connects with Apatzingán it suffers from constant blockages and destruction.

These clashes began in November 2020, when a group of criminals from the United Cartels arrived in the upper area of Tepalcatepec aboard armored vehicles, bodies lying, the endless rattle of long weapons and a thunderous explosion that would announce the death of several people.

Recently, on May 14, violence escalated in Michoacán, when a confrontation between the armed forces and the CJNG took the lives of two members of the army in Aguililla.

The ambush was confirmed by the president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who condemned the events that occurred and sent his condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers.
