Mexico reported 518 new deaths from the covid-19 pandemic in the last 24 hours to reach a total of 210,812 deaths from the coronavirus, reported this Wednesday the Ministry of Health.

The health authorities also registered 5,113 new infections in their daily technical report on the incidence of the coronavirus, for a total of 2,291,246 confirmed cases.

With this data, Mexico is the third country in the world with the most deaths, behind the United States and Brazil and the fourteenth in number of infections, according to Johns Hopkins University.

However, the real data would be higher, since the same Government admitted at the end of March that the country has registered an excess of mortality of almost 300,000 people since the beginning of the pandemic.

Since the beginning of the health emergency in Mexico, 6.33 million patients have been studied, informed the undersecretary of Health and strategist of the Mexican Government for the pandemic, Hugo López-Gatell, in a press conference.

He indicated that the number of estimated cases is 2,482,686 when considering those awaiting the test result. Among them, there are an estimated 29,158 active cases, that is, 1%, who have presented symptoms in the last 14 days.

In addition, it reported 1,817,866 people in the country who are considered recovered after having suffered from the disease.

The official pointed out that the national average occupancy of general beds is 17% and in terms of intensive care beds with respirators there is a national occupancy of 20%, far from the critical levels registered in January.

Regarding deaths, Mexico City, the focus of the pandemic, accumulates 19.4% of all deaths nationwide, that is, almost one in every five deaths.

VACCINATION PLAN

At the conference it was explained that up to this day 12,407,625 doses of the vaccine against covid-19 have been administered, 553,926 during the day on Tuesday, a record for a single day.

In addition, it was reported that a total of 2,632,006 people have received the two doses necessary to complete the vaccination schedule.

For now, the vaccination program includes adults over 60 years of age, medical personnel and some of the educational personnel.

So far, Mexico has received 16,900,850 doses from five different pharmaceutical companies.

With 126 million inhabitants, Mexico has committed 34.4 million doses of the American vaccine Pfizer, 79.4 million of the British AstraZeneca, 35 million of the Chinese CanSino, 24 million of the Russian Sputnik V, 20 million of the Chinese Sinovac, 12 million from the also Chinese Sinopharm and 51.4 million from the WHO Covax platform.
