In Mexico there were 220 new deaths from covid-19 In the last 24 hours to add a total of 194,710 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, authorities from its Ministry of Health indicated this Sunday.
In addition, they reported 2,415 new cases of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus for a total of 2,166,290 infections.
With these figures, Mexico It ranks thirteenth in the world in the number of infections and third in the number of deaths from the pandemic, behind the United States and Brazil, according to the US Johns Hopkins University.
Since the beginning of the pandemic they have been studied in Mexico 5.77 million patients, reported Gabriela Nucamendi, director of epidemiological surveillance of communicable diseases of the Ministry of Health in a press conference.
In addition, he said that there are 1,705,743 people in the country who consider themselves recovered after having suffered the disease.
He added that the estimated number of cases is 2,360,347 when considering those awaiting the test result. Among them, there are 43,317 estimated active cases, that is, 2% of the total that have presented symptoms in the last two weeks.
He specified that so far an average occupation of 24% of general beds has been evidenced out of a total of 31,764, of which 24,239 are available and 7,525 occupied.
Regarding intensive care beds with respirators, he pointed out that there is a national occupancy of 28%, although Mexico City with 50% occupancy.
In total there are 10,918 beds of this type, of which 7,894 are available and 3,024 are occupied.
Regarding deaths, the Mexican capital, the focus of the pandemic, accumulates almost one in every five deaths.
VACCINATION PLAN
At the press conference it was also reported that so far 4,339,926 doses of vaccine against covid-19 have been applied in the country.
Within this total, 609,881 health workers and educational personnel have received the two necessary doses of the vaccination schedule to achieve immunity.
In addition, 2,883,813 adults over 60 have received a first dose.
The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, assured this Sunday that the vaccine against covid-19 is guaranteed for all Mexicans. “We will not miss them ”, he emphasized.
He explained that contracts for 140 million doses have been formalized, and the budget was increased to 40,000 million pesos (1,931 million dollars) for the purchase of the antigen.
In addition, he pointed out that the National Vaccination Plan will no longer stop and there will be the capacity to vaccinate between 200,000 and 300,000 people daily throughout the country.
Mexico, with 126 million inhabitants, has committed 34.4 million doses of the American vaccine Pfizer, 79.4 from the British AstraZeneca, 35 from the Chinese CanSino, 24 from the Russian Sputnik V, 20 from the Chinese Sinovac, 12 from the also Chinese Sinopharm and 51.4 from the Covax platform of the World Health Organization (WHO).
