Mexico’s undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell, has what appears to be a “moderate” case of covid-19 and has been hospitalized since Wednesday, the director of the country’s National Center for Preventive Programs and Disease Control reported on Sunday. at a press conference.

Ruy López Ridaura added that the undersecretary’s health has improved and he could be discharged on Monday.

López-Gatell is in charge of directing the response against covid-19 in Mexico, with a public role comparable to that of Dr. Anthony Fauci in the United States.

On February 20, he tweeted that he had tested positive for the virus and was experiencing mild symptoms. At the time, he said he planned to work from home.

At the press conference this Sunday, López Ridaura said that the undersecretary required oxygen, which contributed to the decision of his medical team to send him to the hospital.
