If these results are compared with those of March 2020 and December 2020 (that is, 73.4 percent and 68.1 percent), a significant downward change is noted in the statistics, according to Inegi.

The cities in which the perception of insecurity is lower are: San Pedro Garza García with 8.2 percent in insecurity issues, Tampico (25.2 percent), San Nicolás de los Garza (26.2 percent), Los Cabos (26.2 percent), Piedras Negras (29.4 percent) and finally, Mérida (30.3 percent).

According to official figures from Ministry of Public Security, in 2020 34,514 homicide victims were registered fraudulent compared to 34,648 in 2019, a year in which there was a historical record.

However, through a study by the organization México Evalúa, they identified errors and omissions in the homicide counts reported by the country’s 32 justice prosecutors’ offices, which means that two out of every three state governments in the Mexican Republic do not have accurate data on homicide figures.

Therefore, it is important to consider that the situation in terms of insecurity is critical in the daily life of Mexicans and this, is reflected in figures and other documents, the perception in this area is relevant since it is one of the many ways in which it is materializes the feelings of the population, because only Mexico closed last year with 34,515 victims of intentional homicide, a figure slightly less than the 34,648 cases of 2019, considered the most violent year in the contemporary history of the country.
