Jakarta, Mar 11 – At least 27 passengers lost their lives after a bus crashed down a ravine last night while driving through the west of the Indonesian island of Java, local authorities informed Efe on Thursday.
The vehicle, carrying 39 other people who survived the accident, some of whom were injured, was circulating near the city of Sumedang when, for reasons still unknown, it fell about 20 meters, said Mamang Fatmono, regional spokesman for the National Agency. for Search and Rescue.
Fatmono said the injured are being treated at a local hospital.
On the bus, which ended up overturned, a group of pilgrims traveled, including minors, from the city of Pangandaran and bound for Subang.
Traffic accidents are common in the Indonesian archipelago due to poor road conditions and non-compliance with safety measures.
