The former dignitary Pedro Castillo -who resides in Barbadillo prison (Ate) after a December 2022 coup– requested through his lawyer Walter Ayala his reinstatement in his functions before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).

The former Minister of Defense announced this measure on February 21, in response to the alleged delay of the Judicial authority to resolve the rural teacher’s appeal for amparo.

“Given the unjustified delay in resolving the amparo, Pedro Castillo asks the IACHR his restitution as constitutional president of Peru and his immediate freedom,” said the former Castillo administration official.

In this regard, the Minister of Justice and Human Rights (MINJUSDH), José TelloHe argued that said request did not cause any concern within the Government Palace. He also indicated that the Ministerial Cabinet is ready to deal with this situation for the benefit of the State.

I can say that we have a very powerful team of lawyers and, moreover, we have a strategy designed to deal with this request which was made before the IACHR. We are going to defend the interests of the Peruvian state,” he commented in a dialogue with El Comercio.

At another time, although the holder of the MINJUSDH He refrained from providing the names of the lawyers who make up the said group, alleging a “reservation”, he specified that it is “a very solid team, with a lot of experience and reputation”.

“We already have a strategy to defend the interests of Peru, because what we have here is a coup by the ex-president, who in his statement (message to the nation) clearly said ” closure of Congress, the Constitutional Court and the delivery of weapons “, many things that in reality configure the crime of rebellion, constitutional infraction and (which generated) a correct vacancy to a minimum”, he said. he adds.

He also ruled out that the government of President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, to be a “dictatorship” of any kind. In recent months, figures such as the former prime minister (of the Castillo administration) Aníbal Torres, the deputy Margot Palaciosamong others, deny the December 7 coup.

“It is very important that, since we are in a democratic country – as far as the institutions and the independence of powers are concerned – we see that Former President Castillo exercises his right to defense at all levels, without any restrictions. This does not happen in countries where there are dictatorships”Shrunk.

In this sense, he added, “Look how different people opposed to the government appear in the media and freely say what they want. An example is what happened at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos with Anibal Torres, it is freedom of expression. Obviously, we do not share (his remarks).
