The revelation of the Special Justice for Peace (JEP) that in Colombia there are 6,402 cases of executions of young people who posed as guerrillas, which became known as the case of the ‘False Positives’, and by the that the National Army is accused, continues to cause reactions, and this time it was the turn of the newly installed Defense Minister, Diego Molano.
According to information from the Caracol Radio station, in a Security Council chaired by Molano in Cúcuta (Norte de Santander) with local authorities to generate action plans against the increasing violence that is being suffered in this department in the northeast of the country, the official urged the JEP to take into account the official figures on this indicated criminal practice that they charge the Army with assassinating young people to pass them off as combat casualties during the two presidential terms of Álvaro Uribe Vélez.
“What the entire country has to be clear about is that in the Ministry of Defense, the military forces and the Police have always acted in accordance with the law, and those who have stained the uniform have been prosecuted and many of them are already here today. condemned, therefore, the figures activated or developed by the JEP must consider official sources such as the Prosecutor’s Office in these processes,” Molano said.
But, in addition, they reported on Caracol Radio, the Minister also defended the Army Commander, General Eduardo Enrique Zapateiro, who on Friday night published a controversial trill on his Twitter account in which he said: “We are Army soldiers of Colombia, and we will not allow ourselves to be defeated by more poisonous and perverse vipers that want to attack us, point at us or weaken us. Officers, NCOs and soldiers, we do not give up, we do not lose heart, always strong with our heads held high. God is with us”.
The assertion was accompanied by a video in which an iguana is chased by several snakes, and many interpreted it as an allusion to the mothers of the victims of the ‘False Positives’, after the JEP indicated that those killed in this practice criminal were three times more than officially contemplated in the country.
“If you want to play Zapateiro, read him in the last trill where he has all the explanation of what was the trill that he placed in his networks,” said Molano, about the official’s publication.
Molano reiterated that the members of the Public Force who commit crimes on behalf of the institutions must respond to the judicial authorities: “What we always hope as has been the tradition of the Military Forces and the Police is that, those who dishonor the uniform for Of course they will have to carry out the corresponding judicial process that has already happened, but in the meantime there is a strict adherence to human rights and international humanitarian law on the part of our forces”.
Faced with the growing violence that has been hitting Cúcuta, Catatumbo and the border area in Norte de Santander, in the northeast of the country, Minister Molano assumed several commitments with the authorities and the local population.
In his Twitter account he announced that in the region they will have more human, mobility, communications and infrastructure capacities for what he called Plan Muralla.
He added that the manual eradication of illicit crops would be maintained and the rewards for information that would allow the capture of drug traffickers who commit crimes in that area of Colombia would be increased to 20 million.
He also announced the increase in the force of the Police in that region with 650 more uniformed officers and the financing of 100 scholarships for new members to enter that institution.
