This Wednesday, February 24, the vaccination of older adults began in Cundinamarca after receiving 10,207 more vaccines against covid-19. There will be 6,144 doses of the Sinovac vaccine for health personnel in remote areas and 4,063 for adults over 80 years of age, giving priority to the 423 adults who live in homes and Protection Centers administered by the department’s Charity.

“Today we begin the vaccination process against Covid-19 in the department, we have already received more than 4,000 doses from the National Government that we have already distributed in the municipalities that have long-stay homes run by the Charity of Cundinamarca and also we will reach other municipalities to vaccinate this important population group ”, said Diego García, manager for Covid-19 of Cundinamarca.

There are eight centers that will be prioritized, among which are five for the welfare of the elderly, in which 291 people live and three more for people with mental and cognitive disabilities, where 132 adults were identified.

María Cecilia Rodríguez Hurtado, 83, was the first person to receive the covid-19 vaccine at the José Joaquín Vargas de Sibaté Long Stay Center, where the vaccine was applied to 76 women and 17 elderly men according to the plan established by the governor of Cundinamarca, Nicolás García Bustos, who committed important efforts to the urgent care of this health emergency in the department.

So far, according to García, those vaccinated have presented some mild reactions such as pain at the site of application, redness and dizziness, which, according to him, are not worrisome.

“It must always be remembered that the benefit of vaccination is much greater than any risk that may be associated with vaccination”, stressed the official.

Within the agenda of the Government of Cundinamarca there are processes that will be extended to another group of medical professionals in remote populations, as well as to those assigned to the care of patients with covid-19. Likewise, it is expected to release the figure and what they will do with the second batch of Pfizer that already arrived in the country this Wednesday.

Regarding Bogotá, the mayor Claudia López, reported this Tuesday that the vaccination of people over 80 years old has already begun after the delivery of the 12,026 Sinovac vaccines.

In total, 4,000 older adults will be immunized against the coronavirus in Bogotá, which will be distributed as follows: 500 for geriatric homes, 8,026 on schedules with four EPS and 20 in jail. The remaining 8,826 doses will be to continue vaccinating health personnel.

The president added that, on Thursday, 16,218 doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be delivered that will be used to continue with the immunization of front-line personnel.

As the Government has done on several occasions, the district reiterated that people who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last six months will not be vaccinated in this first phase.
