An evaluation by the camping portal camping.info based on the figures from Statistics Austria has now calculated that the camping trend will continue stably. Last year there was an upward trend again after the numbers fell to a record low in the corona year 2020.

Camping industry is confident

In 2021, campsite operators in Austria recorded 6,379,591 overnight stays, which represents an increase of six percent compared to the previous year. Compared to the record year 2019 with 7.1 million overnight stays, the losses are still around ten percent. The camping industry is in a very positive mood for the current year. New records are also expected.

Book early due to high occupancy

Maximilian Möhrle, managing director of the travel and booking  portal camping.info  based in Berlin, advises camping holidaymakers to reserve the desired campsite in good time. “Especially in the summer months, the popular campsites are quickly fully booked,” Möhrle knows from many conversations with campsite operators. “The trend towards holidays close to nature is still unbroken. We can see that from the number of hits on our camping portal as well as from the registration statistics for mobile homes and caravans.”

Carinthia most popular state

With 2.4 million overnight stays and an increase of nine percent, Carinthia is the most popular camping state in Austria. They are followed by the federal states of Tyrol (1.5 million, +3.9 percent), Salzburg (0.63 million, +4.8 percent) and Styria (0.57 million, +21 percent). According to the camping.info Award winner 2022, the most popular campsite in Carinthia is Camping Brunner am See in Döbriach.
