Cathy Cox found a huge spider in her bathroom and consulted on a specialized Facebook page what she should do with it

An Australian woman was shocked when she went to take a shower in her home bathroom. In one corner of the wall there was a huge hunting spider , which, despite her fear, the housewife was encouraged to photograph to take her image to social networks, and see what she should do with it .

Cathy Cox lives in the city of Perth , in the south-west of Australia . Although the animal is seen with a size that is impressive because the photo was taken with zoom – it is actually about 4.5 centimeters -, the woman was scared by its presence and asked the Facebook site Australian spider identification page about the arthropod .

The post was accompanied by images of the arachnid , which, taken up close and with magnification, looked like a giant monster with eight hairy legs in a threatening attitude. So much so that many of the comments they made to Cox in the post were inspired by that first impression.

“I would suggest (Cox) move to a more welcoming place,” wrote one user. “I can’t imagine things more horrible than the spider losing its balance and falling on your shoulder in the shower,” commented another. “It looks the size of a basketball. It seems to me that he claimed your shower and from now on you are going to have to bathe with a hose, ”someone else said.

Cox’s posting was made on March 4, and a week later the same user reported that she had already “relocated” the arachnid, using a jug to do so. Luckily for her, and although the spider was not aggressive , she no longer lived with her in the shower.

Characteristics of hunting spiders

The hunting spiders , or huntsman , in English, are large in size and have long legs. Most of them have shades of gray, brown and sometimes have stripes on their legs. They are one of the largest spiders in all of Australia.

They are commonly found living under the loose bark of trees, in rock wall crevices and on logs, under rocks and pieces of bark on the ground and in foliage.

These arachnids often enter homes, and also cars. They are extremely fast and have the characteristic of being able to run sideways and get into very narrow crevices, according to the official website of the Australian Museum.

Although they are not dangerous and their venom is not very harmful, they have large clamps in their mouths and could produce a painful sting if they feel in danger. For this reason, it is recommended not to manipulate them and if it is necessary to move them, as in the case of Mrs. Cox , it is best to do it with a bottle or container that avoids direct contact.
