At least 20 people have died and 3 are missing in the province of Fars, in southern Iran, due to floods caused by torrential rains, the deputy director of the Red Crescent of Iran reported on Saturday. the aforementioned province, Mehdi Jubyar.

Jubyar explained that rescue operations are continuing to find the missing, after heavy rains yesterday afternoon, the local Iranian news agency Tasnim reported.

The general director of the Fars province crisis management, Khalil Abdolahí, explained that on Friday afternoon, heavy rains in the city of Estehban, in the east of the province, caused the Rudbal river to overflow and flood.

Some 55 people were rescued by the rescue, operational and military forces, Abdolahí explained.

Estahban city governor Youssef Karegar said the Meteorological Organization did not warn of possible flooding on Friday, even though people in and around the area had gone to the riverside to spend their day at the weekend. weekdays (Thursday and Friday in Iran).

In 2019, the floods caused by heavy rains in different provinces of Iran caused 70 deaths and some 800 injuries. The most affected provinces were Khuzestan and Lorestan, in the west; Golestán and Mazandarán, in the north; and Fars, in the south of the country.
