A recent study by New York Travel Guides highlights St. Augustine as one of the top places for romantic getaways in the United States.
St. Augustine, known as the oldest city in the United States, has been ranked as the third most romantic location in the country in a New York Travel Guides analysis. The evaluation included 600 small towns in the United States, ranking St. Augustine behind Carmel-by-the-Sea in California and Sedona in Arizona, The Florida Times-Union reports.
Previous recognitions
In March, the city received the title of “Best Small Town in the South by 2023″ from Southern Living. In addition, St. Augustine’s tourism experience was selected in the “Wine, Beer & Spirits Experiences” category by TripAdvisor users in 2022.

Highlights
New York Travel Guides noted that St. Augustine is suitable for romantic travel, recommending walks through 18th-century buildings, exploration of hidden courtyards and ocean views. The guide also referenced various attractions, tours, cruises and local distilleries.
Lodging Options
Although St. Augustine did not top the list in romantic activities, where it ranked sixth, or in “historic architecture and scenery,” where it ranked ninth, it did stand out in offering romantic accommodations. The city has 30 such places, more than any other city on the list.
Other Florida locations
St. Augustine was not the only Florida city on the list. Palm Beach ranked 14th, Fernandina Beach ranked 58th, Marathon ranked 112th and Crystal River ranked 138th.
