YouTube introduces Super Thanks, a new Super Product to pay creators

Platforms like YouTube today do more than just host videos. They are real social media, with all that that implies, especially in the relations between content creators and their subscribers. Today, YouTube is introducing Super Thanks.

YouTube introduces Super Thanks

Until now, the only official way for creators of content on YouTube to make money has been through ads. However, with the American giant having become extremely strict about what kinds of videos or channels can be monetized, this is not (anymore) a viable option for all creators.

This has led a number of creators to turn to third party alternatives like Patreon for income generation.

A new Super Product to remunerate creators

That being said, YouTube is announcing today the arrival of an interesting feature on this point, a feature dubbed Super Thanks, which gives creators an additional method of making money from their videos.

According to the official statement, “Fans watching YouTube videos can now purchase Super Thanks to express their gratitude and show their support. They’ll see an animated GIF and, as a bonus, have a distinctive, colorful comment to highlight their purchase, a comment creators can respond to.”

Right now, there are four options in terms of value – $ 2, 5, 10, and $ 50 (the amount may vary by currency) – and YouTube is expected to take a 30% commission on those trades.

In any case, this is not the first time that YouTube has worked with these “tips”. The platform had, in the past, introduced features like Super Chat which offered something similar.

Currently, Super Thanks is only available in beta and only in 68 countries, including France. However, not all creators and videos are eligible. To learn all about this new feature, go to the official page.
