In July 2020, the Twitter accounts of large companies and celebrities such as Apple, Elon Musk, Bill Gates and Joe Biden were hijacked all at once, and a virtual currency message that “send Bitcoin to this address I will double it” was posted on their twitter accounts.

A teenage boy in Florida, who was accused of being the mastermind of the case, reportedly agreed to a judicial transaction convicted of three years in prison and three years of probation.

The mastermind, Graham Ivan Clark, has hijacked 130 corporate and personal Twitter accounts and deceived people for about $ 117,000.

At the time of the incident, Twitter was under urgent action to suspend the hijacked account, delete the tweet, and temporarily freeze a large number of accounts, including all authenticated users, as a precautionary measure. And the results of the investigation explain that the employee was targeted and allowed access to management tools, not a system vulnerability.

Clark made such a fuss, but was sentenced to be a “young sex offender” because he was only 17 years old (currently 18 years old) at the time of the crime, and if he was an adult, he would be sentenced to at least 10 years in prison. It is reportedly avoided.

Also, as part of a judicial transaction, Clark is prohibited from using computers without the permission and supervision of law enforcement agencies. You are also required to provide your account password to investigate your property.

It may seem too heavy to say “3 years in prison by hijacking a Twitter account”, but Twitter is rooted in social infrastructure more than the amount of damage (the full repayment has been completed). It must be said that threatening the credibility of Twitter is extremely malicious.

And I hope that the sentence of three years’ imprisonment, even if you take into account the youth of a teenager, will be a deterrent to those who are thinking of bad luck on Twitter.
