The New York Giants got some bad news on Sunday. Their rookie running back, Cam Skattebo, had a scary injury during the game against the Philadelphia Eagles. It happened in the second quarter when he went for a pass over the middle. His right ankle twisted in a bad way, and he could not get up. Teammates looked upset, and players from both teams stopped to help.
The team said it is a dislocated right ankle. Skattebo went to a hospital in Philly right away. He had surgery that night to fix it. This means his first year in the NFL is over. Before the injury, he had three carries for 12 yards and caught a pass for an 18-yard touchdown. That was his second receiving score this season.
Skattebo was a fourth-round pick from Arizona State this year. He was having a great start. He led all rookie running backs with 410 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 101 carries. He also had good catches, making him a key player for the Giants. Fans and coaches saw him as a big part of the team’s future, along with quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Giants coach Brian Daboll felt bad for him. “We all feel terrible for the young man,” he said. “It looked really bad, and it hurts when a teammate goes down like that.” Dart, who threw the pass, said, “I was devastated. That’s my boy. Seeing him hurt like that is the worst part of the game.” Even Eagles players turned away because it was so tough to watch.
On X, people shared their thoughts. One fan wrote, “All the Philly and UT fans out there making fun… when was the last time you saw HOFers post about an injured player? Says a lot about Skatt.” Another post said, “Tough week for NFL backs… Giants RB Cam Skattebo: season over with a dislocated ankle.” Fantasy football fans are talking about waiver pickups like Tyrone Tracy to fill the spot.
Skattebo came from Arizona State, where he was a star. Last year, he rushed for over 1,500 yards and was fifth in Heisman voting. He was tough and fun to watch, with big runs and sure hands. Now, the Giants will miss him for the rest of the season. They lost to the Eagles 38-20, but the focus was on Skattebo.
Everyone hopes he comes back strong next year. This injury is a hard hit for a guy who worked so hard to get here. Get well soon, Cam.
