“We received the devastating news tonight that one of our members, Halyna Hutchins, the production’s director of photography Rust, died of injuries on set,” reported a union in the film industry, quoted by the publication Variety.
Until now it is known that Halyna was born in Ukraine, according to information from her social networks, where her last publication dates from two days ago, while she was enjoying a horseback ride through the area of Santa Fe, New Mexico, where the unfortunate death occurred.
Hutchins studied at the Kiev National University, where he graduated in international journalism, and worked as an investigative journalist for British and Eastern European documentary productions.
Later she entered the American Film Institute, in Los Angeles, United States, there she was named as “rising star” by the magazine American Cinematographer in 2019.
Halyna was director of photography for the action film Archenemy (“Arch Enemy”), directed by Adam Egypt Mortimer, who has already reacted to the news of his death.
“I am very sad to have lost Halyna. And very infuriated that this could happen on set,” Mortimer said in a tweet. “She was a brilliant talent who was completely committed to art and film,” it added.
