Charlene of Monaco celebrates her birthday and turns 44 years today. Far from being a day of celebration, Prince Alberto‘s wife faces her birthday more sad, away from her family whom she does not know when she will be able to see again and isolated in a center in Switzerland where she continues her physical and mental recovery.

The Princess has been out of the Principality for almost a year. The former athlete traveled to South Africa at the beginning of last year where she had to be intervened up to three times due to an otorhinolaryngological infection, after undergoing a sinus lift and bone graft, for which she feared for her life.

On November 16, eight days after the former swimmer landed in Monaco after her long stay in South Africa, Palacio announced her temporary withdrawal from public life in order to restore her health and to begin a “period of calm and rest”.

Shortly after, it was revealed that the South African entered a luxury clinic in Switzerland.

Charlene misses her twins. Jacques and Gabriella, 7 years old, whom she has seen on rare occasions. And the little ones don’t do well living away from their mother, whom they have seen on rare occasions since then.

Princess Charlene’s absence is also affecting her institutional work, from which she has been away ever since. Her place is being taken by her sisters-in-law Princesses Caroline and Stephanie of Monaco, who accompany their brother Alberto whenever he requires them.

Children have also become the main support for Albert of Monaco to fulfill official commitments, despite the fact that until then they had stayed away from the media spotlight.

Regarding the return of Charlene to Monaco, everything is an unknown. Although it seems that her reappearance could take place on the occasion of the next Santa Devota festivities, which are celebrated on January 26 and 27.

If so, her return would coincide precisely with one of her last public appointments before she headed to South Africa. A trip that she did not expect was complicated and that was the reason why she is still far from her family.

The last time she spoke publicly was on December 26, after the death of Desmond Tutu, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate whom she admired and with whom she collaborated on various charitable causes.

She did it through her Instagram profile, a platform that has served as a communication channel since she moved to Instagram in May 2021.

South Africa, the trip that marked a before and after in his life.
