Ozuna’s group confirms its interest in buying the Mayagüez Indians: “He has invested in the BSN”

Urban music interpreter Ozuna evaluates an offer made by the current administration of the Mayagüez Indians to join or acquire the National Superior Basketball franchise (BSN).

Carlos “Cady” Acosta, the tribe’s attorney, confirmed to El Nuevo Día that the artist’s group first contacted the team with the intention of buying the franchise. He added that before the interest, he made a proposal to the reggaeton for the benefit of both parties.

“They made the approach. They are talking and evaluating different possibilities, but there is nothing official. This is starting now, ”Acosta said.

“There is no concrete offer,” Acosta added about the amount of money that Ozuna would offer for the quintet. “What we did was make him an offer to help us mutually. We wanted to know their intention for the city and the sport. They are evaluating that ”, he added.

An Ozuna representative confirmed to El Nuevo Día about the artist’s conversations with the Indians. His manager, Edgar Andino, declared, on the other hand, that he is unaware of the negotiations since he has been away from the island since mid-December, but added that the possibility of entering the league is real.

Ozuna was the one who bought the tax credits obtained by the BSN and valued at $ 1.6 million to resume the 2020 season in a “bubble” format at the Wyndham Grand Río Mar hotel in Río Grande.

“He is a genuine person. In addition, he has helped the BSN in different causes. Your reason for joining BSN is genuine and we find your bet interesting. It is much more attractive to enter with an active franchise than with an expansion one. We have a stable franchise, with a native player base that I consider to be one of the best in the BSN. We have done our job and we are willing to collaborate and listen to ideas with anyone who wants to advance the cause in the city, “said Acosta.

If Ozuna entered the BSN, he would be the third exponent of the training industry in the tournament. In 2021, the Rimas Music group, together with its client Bad Bunny , entered the contest with the return of the Santurce Cangrejeros. In addition, the producer Frabián Elí and his client Anuel AA bought Capitanes de Arecibo , current champions of the BSN.

The entry of the artists was a positive injection for BSN, which saw more fans, especially young people, arrive on the courts last year. The league reported an attendance of 810,000 fans with Arecibo leading, followed by teams from Bayamón and Santurce. The Cowboys have had Major League Baseball catcher Yadier Molina as their proxy since 2020.

Last month, the Piratas de Quebradillas were sold to a group led by the American Dion New for the sum of $ 950,000 and their current manager, Roberto Roca, will remain as the team’s administrator in the 2022 season, which begins in April.

If a pact is made with Ozuna, Acosta – owner of the Indians since 2019 – intends to continue contributing to the organization.

“I will always be helping. It is the only reason we entered. At the moment, we are the ones who are making the moves for next season, which is already near, ”he said.

Mayagüez signed manager Xavier Aponte for the incoming tournament. Acosta classified as “speculation” the entry of another coach and general manager (Franklin Román occupies the position) if Ozuna’s group enters the equation, which has to be approved by the tournament’s board of directors.

The Indians, who won their first and only title in 2012, failed to enter last postseason after finishing 13-19, penultimate in Group A.
