The music and the world of entertainment faced each other last night in one of the most anticipated events of the summer, the “BET awards 2022” . It may not sound like much to you, but these awards were created more than twenty years ago by the US network Black Entertainment Television to recognize African-Americans and other ethnic minorities who stand out in the fields of music, sports and entertainment.
This year’s ceremony was held yesterday in Los Angeles and featured a host of surprises on stage. It was a night of great emotions and performances, but among all of them we stayed with de Latto -awarded as best new artist-, who mounted a good number of lights and colors with his dance painting while performing a remix of the mythical “Fantasy” by Mariah Carey .
This song, which is part of the 1995 album “Daydream” by the American singer, became popular again twenty-five years later thanks to the film “Free Guy” by Ryan Reynolds , which premiered last year giving it a prominent role in its soundtrack and rescuing the diva from her musical break.
In this video you can see how the audience, who were already giving it their all with Latto ‘s version, went crazy when Mariah Carey ‘s silhouette appeared projected on the stage door while they listened to her characteristic high-pitched tone. The panel that hid the artist was raised and everyone applauded her presence there.
The diva appeared with high heels that did not allow her to move freely on stage, so one of the dancers held her by her right hand while the artist began to sing the first verses of her song. It was quite an experience to be able to see Mariah Carey again on stage performing one of the most popular songs of her career.
The ceremony was presented by the actress Taraji P. Henson , who acted as master of a ceremony in which Doja Cat started as the favorite with six nominations, although in the end she did not win one. Silk Sonic -the group formed by Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak- and Kendrick Lamar were the big winners of this evening, accumulating two awards each. The Weeknd and Justin Bieber also stood out among the night’s winners.
Even Will Smith was one of the stars of the night when he won the award for best actor for his role in “The Williams Method” , which also won the award for best picture. However, the actor did not make an appearance as he disappeared in the media after the slap he gave the comedianChris Rock on stage at the last edition of the Oscars.
