The American actress Kristen Stewart will preside over the international jury of the next edition of the Berlinale, which will be held between February 16 and 26, announced this Friday those responsible for the international film festival of the german capital.

“We are delighted that Kristen Stewart is taking on this distinguished task. She is one of the most talented and multi-talented actresses of her generation,” the Berlinale said in a statement.

“Young, bright and with an impressive career, Kristen Stewart is the perfect bridge between the United States and Europe,” event co-directors Mariette Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian said of the decision.

Stewart, known worldwide especially from her performance in the “Twilight” series (2008-2012), participated in the 2010 Berlin festival with the independent production “Welcome to the Rileys”, directed by Jake Scott.

That same year, the actress received the Orange Rising Star award for best new performer at the British BAFTA awards.

In recent days, the Berlinale also announced that the 73rd edition of the event will honor American filmmaker, producer and screenwriter Steven Spielberg with an honorary Golden Bear for his career.

Within the framework of the award ceremony, his most recent work, “The Fabelmans”, a film with autobiographical features, in which Spielberg reviews his childhood in a very personal way, will be screened at the Berlinale Palast .
