In a revealing interview with People, Jada Pinkett talked about her relationship with Will Smith. The actress and presenter revealed that the two are no longer a couple. What was surprising was the length of their separation: they haven’t been together since 2016.

“I think by the time we got to 2016, we were exhausted from trying. I think we were both stuck in our fantasy of what the other person should be like. We’re still discovering each other. We’ve been doing some really hard work together,” she revealed.

Jada also said that the two had kept their separation a secret because they weren’t ready to go public. “We’re trying to figure out between the two of us how to be partners.”

The actress also spoke about the fateful episode at the 2022 Oscars, when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock in the face after a joke about Jada’s alopecia. “I thought, ‘This is a play,’ I was like, ‘There’s no way Will is going to hit him. It wasn’t until Will started to get back into his chair that I realized it wasn’t a play.” According to her, the first words she said to her husband when they were alone after the ceremony were: “Are you okay?”
