The famous Italian actress Monica Vitti, the great muse of her compatriot Michelangelo Antonioni, has died at the age of 90, the Minister of Culture, Dario Franceschini, reported on Wednesday.
“Goodbye Monica Vitti, goodbye to the queen of Italian cinema. Today is a truly sad day, a great artist and a great Italian die,” the minister wrote in a statement after recalling her long career as an actress, both comedic and dramatic.
