President Biden continues to be unpopular. Less than a third of Americans believe he should run for a second term as head of the United States in 2024, according to a Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll poll reported by The Hill on Friday.
Only 29% of Americans believe that Joe Biden should run for a new term in the White House, compared to 71% of respondents who say they are opposed.
Among the reasons given by Americans opposed to a new candidacy, the most frequent answer given is that the Democratic president is a “bad president” (45% of opponents of a new Joe Biden campaign), when others consider him “too old” (33%) or think “it’s time to change” (25%).
Less than a third of Democratic voters support him
A matter of concern for the progressive president, Joe Biden has little support from his electoral base. “Only 30% of (voters) Democrats would vote for him in the Democratic presidential primary,” said Mark Penn, co-director of the study.
A possible return of Donald Trump, president between 2016 and 2020, does not excite the crowds much more. More than six out of ten Americans (61%) say they are opposed to a new candidacy of the Republican real estate magnate who regularly casts doubt on this subject.
Joe Biden recently said he wanted to run again in 2024, despite the reservations of part of the Democratic camp.
A year and a half after his election, Joe Biden faces significant unpopularity with 55.9% unfavorable opinions, according to Five Thirty Eight. With only a very narrow majority in Congress, the Democratic president hopes to reverse the trend next November during the mid-term elections.
