The President of the United States, Joe Biden, expressed himself through a press release on the resignation of the Prime Minister of Great Britain Liz Truss who after 44 days in office took a step back, which makes her the shortest-tenured prime minister in the country’s history.

“The United States and the United Kingdom are strong allies and enduring friends, and this fact will never change. I thank the Prime Minister, Liz Truss, her collaboration on a number of issues including holding Russia accountable for its war against Ukraine,” Biden said.

The president also indicated that the United States will continue to cooperate closely with the UK government, as it has been doing to address the global challenges facing both nations.

Later, as the president left the White House, he was asked by the press if he believed Truss had done the “right thing” by resigning, to which he replied “she decides it, her. But look, she was a good partner with Russia and Ukraine; the British are going to solve her problems, but she was a good partner”.

They also asked if Truss’s resignation would impact the US economy to which he replied “No. I don’t think they are that important.”

Liz Truss announced early that “I cannot fulfill the mandate for which I was elected” and even noted that her decision was reported to King Carlos III who would step down as leader of the Conservative Party and remain prime minister until a successor is chosen within a week.
