Sports Writing, 12 Feb. In an epic match, without service breaks, resolved in three ‘tie breaks’ and after three hours and two minutes of play, Yibing Wu became the first Chinese player to win an ATP tournament by winning the Dallas one after beating the American John Isner 6. -7 (4), 7-6 (3) and 7-6 (12).

Wu, who became world number one junior and had already become the first Chinese to play in an ATP final, survived four match points and the veteran American’s 44 aces.

Wu resisted, who will climb to 57th place in the ATP rankings, the highest of his entire career. The 23-year-old from Hangzhou hadn’t scored any wins against opponents ranked in the top 30 in the world before this week.

But the tennis player from the East who beat the Canadian Denis Shapovalov in the tournament draw and the American Taylor Fritz, first favorite, in the semi-finals, lived magical days. Now in the final he held off the push from Isner who had his first match point in the second set tiebreaker.

Wu resisted, leading the duel to the result and after an epic tie-break that ended 14-12, Wu achieved his goal and made tennis history in his country. EFE
