ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Authorities have fined a Pennsylvania chocolate factory more than $14,500 after an accident last year in which two workers fell into a vat of chocolate.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited Mars Wrigley for the June accident at an M&M/Mars plant in Elizabethtown, saying workers were not allowed to work on the tanks and n had not received adequate training on the safety measures related to this equipment.

Authorities said two workers employed by a contractor company fell into the partially filled tank during maintenance. Emergency crews managed to free the workers by opening a hole in the bottom of the tank, officials said. Both workers were taken to hospital, one of them by helicopter.

A company representative told reporters last week that the safety of employees and contractors “is our top priority.”

“As always, we appreciate OSHA’s cooperation in conducting the proper post-mortem assessment,” the rep said.
