Juan Carlos Torres, Spanish actor highlights his acting work with Andrea Luna: “He has a very quick level of adaptation”

Juan Carlos Torres is an actor from Madrid who is 16 years into the acting career and landed his first leading role in a Peruvian-Spanish film called ‘A retreat to fall in love with. In the film, he shares the lead role with Andrea Luna and other Peruvian actors such as Mónica Torres, Merly Morello, Gian Piero Díaz and Ernesto Pimentel. In addition to Spanish actors Alex Béjar, Gaizka Pasalodos and Marcos García-Tizón.

The 36-year-old performer gave an interview to GlobeLiveMedia and he told details about his experience filming in Peru and sharing filming with national artists who participated in the film by Jesús Álvarez Bentacourt.

Besides, Juan Carlos Torres highlighted the acting work of his classmate Andrea Lunawith whom he is recording the film Lima and Madrid in 2022. The film will be released in Peruvian theaters this Thursday, February 23.

How did you get the casting for this Peruvian film?

It came to me through Elías Merino, one of the producers of Berserk Estudio, the production company in charge of the project. He contacted me and asked me to do the casting because he saw me for this character. He told me that we had to go record in Peru and I accepted.

What is your character about?

My character is Marco, he’s a bit of a solitary man, he doesn’t like to socialize very much, but he has a problem with women because he doesn’t trust them too much. So before you get attached and be with someone, find a way out. His fear of commitment is very great, he does not want to hurt but he does. He also doesn’t confront and confront the women he no longer wants to follow.

Is this your first leading role?

Yes, and the experience was brutal. It was a dream, between real and unreal, until we went to Peru; On the plane, we Spanish actors looked at each other and couldn’t believe it. I felt very happy and very scared to face it and see if I was going to be up to it or if in the middle of the sessions the director sent me back to Spain (laughs).

Was a scene from Marco’s performance difficult for you?

Kind of like the character had with women. In the relationship of using women for fun, it’s not easy for me, I don’t do that.

Is Juan Carlos very different in this respect?

I take a lot of distance with the character in this part. Before you get hurt, I don’t think you can do this. This aspect was a bit complex, but my teacher Juan Carlos Coraza and Elías helped me a lot with the character. They told me to be more cheeky and face more.

How about the recording experience with Andrea Luna?

Alright, we did zoom rehearsals and when we got to recording it was kind of like we knew each other. His predisposition helped a lot, his time to be able to rehearse and talk about the character, to prepare and to do our job a little better.

Have you heard of Andrea’s acting work?

They told me it was very good, that it had an acting similar to European acting. It helped a lot because when the scenes were recorded there was a great understanding.

What do you highlight in your work as an actress?

vulnerability and adaptation. The level of taking things very quickly and maturing them in a very short time and being able to bring them to life from a very real part.

Do you also share roles with other Peruvian actors, what can you say?

With Monica Torres and Merly Morello. Both are a party. With all the actors and actresses, it was kind of like that chemistry, we are a team that shoots a wonderful movie with a lot of effort.

Were you able to interact with Merly Morello?

She is more related to the other Spanish actress Alex Béjar. We have very brief attendance, we don’t interact much, but you know he’s watching you and there’s a really good vibe.

And with Mónica Torres do you have more participation?

I go out with her in one of the scenes at the beginning of the film, she’s my character’s housewife, she’s my second mother. The relationship that exists is very maternal and it’s the one you trust the most, Marco. There is a beautiful relationship of affection and love.

How about the experience of acting with her?

Alright, with so much experience she has, she makes it easy for you. If you fall, she catches you. It’s great fun and your support helps a lot. It was very fun to record with her, we laughed a lot.

When did you record “A Retreat to Fall in Love” and when did you finish it?

In April and May we recorded in Lima 2022. And in June and July the Peruvian actors came to shoot more scenes in Madrid.

Was this your first time visiting Lima?

Yes, it was the first time I heard of her because one of my best friends is Peruvian. He told me a lot about Peru, he told me to go there and I told him no because I didn’t know anything about it. At the end I told him that this project had come out and that it was an immense joy.

What did you like the most?

The ceviche is brutal, in the food there is a variety of exceptional sauces. Dishes like lomo saltado, ají de gallina, papa a la huancaína. There are many typical products such as desserts. I want to go back to try everything, but in another state of mind and not as an actor.

Will you come to Peru for sightseeing?

When I arrived I knew very little, it was a full recording and I had a lot of work to do. The premiere is in February and the idea is to go there. I would love to come back to shoot and sightsee, not from a work perspective, but from a perspective. I would like to visit Cuzco, the wonder of Machupicchu and do a route that Caminos del Inca recommended to me. The jungle, there was a production assistant whose parents have a hotel, they invited me.

Do you have other projects in Peru?

Yes, they called me to do another project with another Peruvian director, but we are still in the casting process. I would be happy to come back.

Have you ever heard of the director, Jesús Álvarez Betancourt?

From the director, yes, because the Spanish actor Marco García-Tizón, who lives in Lima, told us about it. He told us that he had been working on a project for a long time and that he was going to do something. In life he came to work with Jesus and now I have a very good relationship with him. I also saw his films.

I imagine that now you watch more Peruvian cinema…

Yeah, now I’m going to see a movie that was recommended to me, starring Gisela Ponce de León that’s on Netflix, I think it’s called ‘Coveted Single’. I would also like to work with Andrea Luna again without thinking about it, then there is an actress who appears in ‘Encintados’ and ‘Soltera Codiciada’ called They went to ReateguiI think she’s an excellent actress, I love her, I find her very cute.
