The automobile market in Italy registered 107,814 registrations in January, 19% less than in the same month of the previous year, when they had been 134,198, the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport reported today in a release.

However, transfers of ownership of used cars increased and reached 348,137, 34% more than the 259,244 in the same period of 2021.

Regarding the global volume of monthly sales, 455,951 vehicles were sold in January, of which 23.65% were new and 76.35 used.

As usual, the publication of the ministry’s data coincides with that of the colossus Stellantis, which emerged from the merger between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (MI: STLA ) and the French group PSA (AS: SHEL ), manufacturer of brands such as Peugeot (PA: PEUP ), Citroën or Opel, among others.

The Stellantis Group also started the year on the wrong foot and registered 38,593 vehicles, 26.7% less than in January 2021, and also reduced its market share to 35.8% compared to 39.2% a year ago.
