Virginia woman went two weeks without checking her email and was told she had a $1 million lottery prize

The woman matched all five Mega Millions numbers on the white balls and only missed the Mega Ball number. If he had hit her, she would have become a billionaire

A Virginia woman won a big lottery prize, but it took her two weeks to discover how huge a sum of money she had walked away with. Alka Franceschi purchased a ticket for the Aug. 9 Mega Millions drawing and then received an email notifying her that she had won, lottery officials said.

However, the Virginia Beach City woman did not open her email until two weeks later. That’s when she realized that she won $1 million dollars. “It really feels amazing!” Franceschi told lottery officials.

Franceschi is a school principal, as reported on The News & Observer information platform.

Franceschi matched all five Mega Millions numbers on the white balls and only missed the Mega Ball number, according to lottery officials.

Franceschi, who still works in education, told lottery officials that she still didn’t know what she would do with the money.

The odds of matching the first five numbers in Mega Millions are 1 in 12,607,306, according to the Virginia Lottery.
