WASHINGTON.- The White House has attacked Florida’s new law that allows the carrying of a firearm without a state license, while affirming the need to limit the arms trade and ban assault rifles .
“This goes against common sense,” said White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre in a statement, recalling that the people of Florida have already “paid a lot” for shootings like the one in the city. Parkland School in 2018 and Pulse Nightclub in 2016.
The governor of the state, the republican Ron DeSantis, possible candidate for the presidency in 2024, signed this Monday the law approved by the Florida Congress which authorizes the carrying of firearms without the need for a license of the ‘State.
Jean-Pierre called Monday “shameful” that DeSantis signed the settlement less than a week after the shooting at a school in Nashville, Tennessee, in which three children and three adults died.
The spokeswoman for the President of the United States, Joe Biden, has insisted on the call for Congress to ban the sale of assault rifles, remove immunity from arms manufacturers and establish background checks for arms buyers.
“President Biden has been very clear: too many lives are being torn apart by gun violence,” the spokeswoman said.
HB 543 goes into effect on July 1, making Florida the twenty-sixth state in the United States to pass such legislation.
From this date, people who carry concealed weapons in public will not need special training or background checks to do so.
