Washington.- Joe Biden’s government will deploy a team from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to meet “urgent humanitarian needs” in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.

The group, known as the Disaster Assistance Response Team or DART, is made up of disaster experts, focused on scaling up emergency food assistance as well as other humanitarian programs, according to a statement.

Defined as an “elite team” by USAID, this group “will assess humanitarian needs, coordinate with local partners and officials, and provide urgently needed assistance to families and communities affected by the crisis.”

With this deployment, the Agency is leading the United States Government’s “humanitarian response” in the Northern Triangle that coincides with an increase in migrant arrivals from Central America to the US border.

The Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, celebrated in a statement the activation of the DART team in the Northern Triangle.

“The deployment of a DART team will provide the necessary humanitarian assistance, helping people in the region where they are,” said the vice president.

US President Joe Biden has appointed Harris as his manager to curb migration from Central America and coordinate with El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala to combat the problems of violence and corruption that cause their citizens to flee.

Irregular migration from Central America to the US has grown in recent months and the reception system has collapsed, prompting criticism of the Biden government.
