15 seconds. That’s the time it took U2 to completely revolutionize the music industry. During the Super Bowl announcements, the Irish group confirmed in one of these spots that they would be celebrating the 30th anniversary of their album Watch out baby (1991) with a residence in Las Vegas in which there will be a great absentee: Larry Mullen Jr.

The mythical drummer of the quartet being convalescing from an operation which will prevent him from putting himself behind a battery, the group has decided to continue its concerts in the city of sin. A decision not without controversy since many have been those who have criticized that the fourth original member of the formation is not there.

And it’s that if something has always been clear for U2, it’s that they wouldn’t play shows if the whole line-up wasn’t there. Still, the roster couldn’t pass up this opportunity despite losing 25% of their original roster.

He will be replaced by drummer Bram van der Berg who will accompany Bono, The Edge and Adam Clayton in the shows that will be used for the opening of the MSG Sphere at the Venetian next fall in the U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at the Sphere.

A few weeks ago, U2 put forward what might be one of the most painful decisions they could have made in recent times: “The beauty of the Sphere is not just the advanced technology that will make it unique , with the most advanced sound system in the world, but also its possibilities to create an immersive experience in real and imaginary landscapes. In short, it is a canvas of incomparable scale and resolution and a unique opportunity. We’d be crazy not to accept the invitation We’ll need everything we have to get closer to the Sphere without our teammate on drums but Larry has joined us to welcome Bram van den Berg who is a force apart We’ve been working on the show at La Sphère for some time now. We don’t want to disappoint anyone, let alone our audience. The truth is that we miss them as much as we seem to miss them… our audience was always bear the fifth member of the group. U2 haven’t played live since December 2019 and we need to get back on stage and see the faces of our fans again. And what a unique scene they are building for us in the desert.”
