Two police officers and a suspect were injured this Friday afternoon in a shooting in the town of Frederick, Maryland, authorities reported. 

The shooting was reported shortly before 1 pm on Waverly Drive and Key Parkway in the city of Frederick. 

Two officers suffered gunshot wounds after responding to a call about a “suspicious” man in possession of a gun, Frederick Police Chief Jason Lando said. Moments after officers arrived on scene, the corporation received a radio call alerting of a shooting. 

The two injured uniformed men, a woman and a man, are part of the city police. The suspect also suffered injuries. 

Further details about what led to the exchange of fire were not immediately available.

The officers and the suspect were airlifted to a hospital facility in Baltimore. The department is expected to provide an update on his conditions in the next few hours. 

The violent incident caused several local schools to go into preventive closure. This was lifted around 2:15 pm
