A protest that has been going on for several days, the affected drivers returned to company facilities today as they were promised they would be paid today, but that was not the case. Everyone left with more questions than answers.
Dachel Flores, driver concerned, says: “All we ask is that they tell us what is going to happen.”
Emily Bernal, wife of the driver concerned, said: ‘Let them be upfront and say what’s going on.
These are uncertain days for a group of freight truck drivers who provide their services to Flagship Transport in Medley. Today denounce that they have weeks without receiving their salary.
Nelson Echevarría, affected driver, assures:
“They owe me 2,800 pesos, but here there are drivers who owe you up to 25,000 pesos.”
“I am the wife of a driver from this company who was on the road, I came to get his check, I deposited it, the check bounced”, says Bernal.
“A check was dishonored and they owe me two and a half weeks,” says Flores.
Flores says he’s collected data from at least 200 co-workers who are also going through the same thing and fear the company’s situation is getting worse.
“We know it closed because they didn’t bring the checks to us when they said, we know it closed because they take away the trucks that are already paid. They take them out,” says Flores.
Flagship Transport did not confirm to us if they were indeed closing their doors, but this Tuesday afternoon we were able to observe how several trailers were coming out of the trucks apparently in the name of the company. The same day that, according to the employees, they were summoned to the site to receive their payments, which never happened.
“I unloaded at Doral and arrived at 5:30 a.m. and they owe me three checks, three NSF checks, they owe me $7,700,” said another concerned driver.
This driver says that like him, there are a lot of freeway drivers who don’t know what’s going on with payments. Some are even said to be stuck in other states, while those protesting here await a response.
These drivers tell me that they have sought out an attorney who will seek to help them collect the payments. We have tried to communicate with the company Flagship Transport and for the moment we have not received a response.
