The operator of a tugboat that was assisting a Chinese-flagged ship died on Wednesday after the vessel capsized and sank in Puerto Deseado , in the province of Santa Cruz. Two other people who were with him, one of them his son, managed to jump out of the boat and saved their lives.

The incident occurred in the afternoon, while the Gypsi V was towing the jigger ship Xin Shi Ji 26 through the Deseado estuary to the port area, which arrived days before in the region to carry out the squid season , as LA NACION learned . Videos recorded by the crew of the Asian ship with cell phones that were published on the Facebook of the port of the town in the north of Santa Cruz show how the tugboat sailed alongside the fishing boat and, shortly after, turned around and sank.

The victim was identified as Daniel Goro , 59, who had been in the activity for more than three decades. The man, Télam specified , was trapped in the ship’s cabin and his body was found hours later by tactical divers who worked in the area to find him. His son Cristian (37) jumped out of the boat and was rescued. In addition, one of the Prefecture agents ingested water with fuel spilled during the operation and had to be admitted to a health center, although he is out of danger.

The investigation of the case is carried out by the Argentine Naval Prefecture to determine the causes of the tragedy that mourns Puerto Deseado, where today many businesses did not open their doors as a sign of mourning for the death of Goro , well known in the locality and with vast experience in the work he did in the port.

Until this Thursday afternoon, the Gipsy V tugboat was still sunk in the estuary in front of the Punta Cascajo nautical promenade and they were evaluating a plan to extract it. Since January, Puerto Deseado receives jiggers that are dedicated to squid fishing in season and moor in the local port.
