An incident at Boyd Anderson High School in Fort Lauderdale with the use of pepper spray involved 11 students and forced the transfer of two affected students to a hospital, authorities confirmed.

Broward Police said of the 11 students, 2 were transported and the remaining 9 were returned to their classrooms.

The Broward Office of Public Schools (BCPS) said several students were involved in an altercation in the schoolyard during lunchtime.

“During the altercation, pepper spray was sprayed. Although no one was seriously injured, several students were treated for pepper spray exposure and two students were transported to a local hospital for observation,” BCPS said. .

School administrators are investigating the incident and the source of the pepper spray. “Students involved in the incident will receive appropriate school disciplinary action in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct,” BCPS added.
