Several local media reports report a firearm incident at the White House which led to the immediate closure of its facilities.
The BBC reported that “the US Capitol building and surrounding streets in Washington DC are closed after police warned of a threat to external security.”
For its part, CNN confirmed that “the spokesman for the Washington Firefighters, Vito Maggiolo, says they are responding to a reported shooting at the North Capitol barricade and there are indications that they will transport patients.”
Also, according to CNN, announcements can be heard through the public address system for everyone to stay inside the complex and to stay away from the windows.
Lauren Fox, a journalist for this media outlet, said she had seen ambulances and a helicopter outside the building, as well as a person being transported on a stretcher.
