A program in Compton offers young people the opportunity to complete their secondary education but also to train them to enter the labor market.

EntreNous opened in 2013 and offers these classes for free. It is open to young people between the ages of 16 and 29, in communities facing economic difficulties.

Students earn a high school diploma through Youthbuild California charter schools.

All programs are for people of all ages and abilities. Interested persons who do not reside in Montebello can also attend the courses.

They can also enroll in two training programs in construction, hospitality and culinary arts, to earn industry-recognized degrees.

“This program is very focused on leadership and workforce development, which our communities greatly need,” said Alejandra Guizar, Let’s Talk Program Assistant.

“It’s an opportunity for our students, who we call ‘members’ because they’re part of the program and when they finish, they’re still part of us. We are a family”.

Guizar started out as a student in the program and later got a job with the organization after graduating from high school.

“It’s very important for people to know that they have these opportunities and resources in the community,” Guizar said.

The program accepts approximately 125 students per year. The duration of the programs varies according to the course.

“The most important thing for our members is that they learn trades so they can have a better future,” Guizar said. “This is an important opportunity for residents of Compton and surrounding neighborhoods”
