Aston Martin became the big revelation of this season in Formula 1. They confirmed everything that had been said in the Bahrain Grand Prixwith a podium of Fernando Alonso and a more than meritorious sixth place from Spear Walk, who ran hurt.

“We were surprised by the pace of the Aston Martin. They were very good with degradation, it’s an unusual circuit, the asphalt is different to others and just because they’re performing well here doesn’t mean there’s no guarantee,” Newey said after the race.
He predicts a long year and does not want to talk about domination throughout the season: “The Mercedes have new pontoons for the third race, Ferrari and Aston Martin will improve and it’s been a long year with 23 races.”
Max Verstappen and Pérez took over 30 seconds from third-placed Alonso: “We knew we had a good pace in the race, which was going to be tougher, but the boys did a great job of getting that front row on the grid.”
